A Flower Falls

A flower falls, even though we love it; and a weed grows, even though we do not love it.  ~Dogen

There’s something about Jess’s wilted flowers that I have grown to appreciate.   They’re a gentle reminder of the capacity of the heart to heal despite the greatest hurts – that new life can grow from death.

And when it does, we learn to rip the weeds from the flowerbed before they choke the roses.

  1. You’re right–these flowers are melancholy and lovely. I’ve taken some shots of wilted flowers, too, and find they have a certain appeal. Very beautiful shot–colours and everything.

    1. Thanks, Heather! For me the appeal is, there’s usually a story behind that wilted flower. There is some sentiment behind it, the happiness to receive it, and then knowing each time you look at it that someone thought of you (or in this case, my roomie Jess.)
