Harris Avenue

The walk from downtown Fairhaven to Marine Park provides some interesting landmarks, specifically these commemorative stones lining Harris Avenue. I’m surprised that I’ve never noticed them before. This one, detailing the tragic death of some poor soul named Mathew, was the first one to grab my attention. There where others to follow, such as:

Policeman Phil DeFries, shot at 23 times. 1899-1905.

City Garbage Dump Site, Smells like the breath of an elephant. 1890.

Huge freight wagon, disappeared beneath quicksand here. 1890.

Cleopatra’s Barge, lions and camels paraded here. 1891.

Have I mentioned lately how much I love Bellingham?
